Blind kids are kids too. They know that film pervades the modern world. When offered the chance, they want to be stars just like anyone else. We have produced one project that enabled visually impaired students to develop their own mystery narrative, which they entitled "Our Little Secret." Other projects allow students to communicate their feelings via videotaped panel discussion elevating them to the status of "experts in the field." The other 80% can experience the video by sitting close to the screen, or viewing a projected image. 2. Making a video can be just plain fun. Kids with any physical contidion enjoy seeing or hearing themselves on screen. 3. The process requires planning and organization, and can be an enriching educational experience. 4. With the process of retakes and practice, students get a chance to hone their presentational skills. 5. The end product can be viewed by parents and friends--allowing students to share a part of their experience in a "strong light."
